Description of problem: SELinux is preventing hostname from 'search' accesses on the directory net. ***** Plugin catchall (100. confidence) suggests ************************** If you believe that hostname should be allowed search access on the net directory by default. Then you should report this as a bug. You can generate a local policy module to allow this access. Do allow this access for now by executing: # ausearch -c 'hostname' --raw | audit2allow -M my-hostname # semodule -X 300 -i my-hostname.pp Additional Information: Source Context system_u:system_r:cockpit_ws_t:s0 Target Context system_u:object_r:sysctl_net_t:s0 Target Objects net [ dir ] Source hostname Source Path hostname Port <Unknown> Host (removed) Source RPM Packages Target RPM Packages SELinux Policy RPM selinux-policy-targeted-38.29-1.fc38.noarch Local Policy RPM cockpit-ws-301-1.fc38.x86_64 Selinux Enabled True Policy Type targeted Enforcing Mode Enforcing Host Name (removed) Platform Linux (removed) 6.4.15-200.fc38.x86_64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Thu Sep 7 00:25:01 UTC 2023 x86_64 Alert Count 2 First Seen 2023-10-11 10:09:59 CEST Last Seen 2023-10-11 10:09:59 CEST Local ID f2f0dcfd-cb5f-4c28-a1c1-bf3b0edf8e55 Raw Audit Messages type=AVC msg=audit(1697011799.245:110): avc: denied { search } for pid=1044 comm="hostname" name="net" dev="proc" ino=15817 scontext=system_u:system_r:cockpit_ws_t:s0 tcontext=system_u:object_r:sysctl_net_t:s0 tclass=dir permissive=0 Hash: hostname,cockpit_ws_t,sysctl_net_t,dir,search Version-Release number of selected component: selinux-policy-targeted-38.29-1.fc38.noarch Additional info: reporter: libreport-2.17.11 reason: SELinux is preventing hostname from 'search' accesses on the directory net. package: selinux-policy-targeted-38.29-1.fc38.noarch component: cockpit hashmarkername: setroubleshoot type: libreport kernel: 6.4.15-200.fc38.x86_64 component: cockpit Potential duplicate: bug 2143070

Weird.. this bug was reported over two months ago, but I only got the bugzilla email now. This is a duplicate of bug #2143070, but it never got enough information to become reproducible or at least understandable. Please tell me a bit about the history of your machine and the context of this violation: * Was this machine upgraded from an earlier Fedora (which one)? * How often does it get rebooted? * How often do you get this violation error? On each reboot, or was it an one-off after an upgrade? Thanks!
