Description André 2023-10-14 17:13:41 UTC
1. Please describe the problem:
Once updated to kernel 6.5, no sound output devices are loaded. Only dummy output is available, which returns no sound.

The same happens from kernel 6.5.

Sound works perfectly on 6.4.

It seems to be a hardware-specific issues (Dell XPS 9320): https://www.reddit.com/r/Fedora/comments/16ysxc5/comment/k3d175i

2. What is the Version-Release number of the kernel:
6.5.5 and 6.5.6 (I believe these were the two latest releases).

3. Did it work previously in Fedora? If so, what kernel version did the issue
*first* appear? Old kernels are available for download at
   https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=8 :

The issue first appear on kernel 6.5.5 and remains on 6.5.6. The kernel 6.5.4 still works.

4. Can you reproduce this issue? If so, please provide the steps to reproduce
   the issue below:
It seem to be a hardware-specific issue (Dell XPS 9320). Updating from kernel 6.5.4 to 6.5.5 breaks sound.

5. Does this problem occur with the latest Rawhide kernel? To install the
Rawhide kernel, run ``sudo dnf install fedora-repos-rawhide`` followed by
   ``sudo dnf update --enablerepo=rawhide kernel``:

6. Are you running any modules that not shipped with directly Fedora's kernel?:
No.

7. Please attach the kernel logs. You can get the complete kernel log
   for a boot with ``journalctl --no-hostname -k > dmesg.txt``. If the
issue occurred on a previous boot, use the journalctl ``-b`` flag.

Reproducible: Always

Comment 2 Jaroslav Kysela 2023-10-24 08:48:39 UTC
Apparently, the 6.5 kernels require updated alsa-sof-firmware package to v2023.09.
