Description Ronald L Humble 2024-01-25 16:31:46 UTC
1. Please describe the problem:
Seriously obsolete hardware, but reporting for completeness.
Computer: ZBOXHD-ND22 (2010)
Monitor/TV: Dynex DX-L19-10A (2010)

Forced to use 'nomodeset' with the nouveau driver when Nvidia support ended due
to faulty edid monitor/tv data. In 2023 created an edid.bin file to allow use
of the nouveau driver without 'nomodeset'. 2023 setup with edid.bin is used.

Using an HDMI connection, 6.7.1-200 kernel boots to kernel modesetting and
appears to crash. Can not remotely ssh into machine.
abrt-dump-journal-core.state and abrt-dump-journal-oops.state files created.
Booting with and without the edid.bin file both crashed.

Using a DVI (computer) to VGA (Dynex) connection allows successful boot to
text mode.

Replacing Dynex with Gateway FPD2185W (Dec. 2005; no HDMI) and using DVI
connection, the 6.7.1 kernel works as expected.

2. What is the Version-Release number of the kernel:
6.7.1-200.fc39.x86_64

3. Did it work previously in Fedora? If so, what kernel version did the issue
*first* appear? Old kernels are available for download at
   https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=8 :
6.7.1-200.fc39.x86_64. All previous kernels worked as expected.

4. Can you reproduce this issue? If so, please provide the steps to reproduce
   the issue below:
Using HDMI and ZBOX/Dynex hardware, boot to kernel modesetting then always crashes.

5. Does this problem occur with the latest Rawhide kernel? To install the
Rawhide kernel, run ``sudo dnf install fedora-repos-rawhide`` followed by
   ``sudo dnf update --enablerepo=rawhide kernel``:
N/A

6. Are you running any modules that not shipped with directly Fedora's kernel?:

No
7. Please attach the kernel logs. You can get the complete kernel log
   for a boot with ``journalctl --no-hostname -k > dmesg.txt``. If the
issue occurred on a previous boot, use the journalctl ``-b`` flag.

Reproducible: Always
