Comment 2 Fabio Valentini 2024-02-29 11:49:44 UTC
I've submitted updates to version 1.4.0 which fixes this issue to Fedora Rawhide and 40:

https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2024-baa2f4f73a
https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2024-12fcc689ac

However, because Fedora <40 is stuck at dav1d <1.3.0 due to ABI changes in 1.3.0, updating to 1.4.0 there is not possible.
It is unclear whether the fix for CVE-2024-1580 can be backported or not (I could not even easily find the related upstream commits).

Comment 3 Fabio Valentini 2024-02-29 14:49:29 UTC
Comparing 1.3.0 and 1.4.0, I see two potential commits that might be related to this issue, but I'm not sure which one addresses the CVE (or even both?):

https://code.videolan.org/videolan/dav1d/-/commit/e47a39ca951b523824424cd20719f93da2b7da9f
https://code.videolan.org/videolan/dav1d/-/commit/2b475307dc11be9a1c3cc4358102c76a7f386a51

The first one might be tricky to backport, the second one looks easier.

Comment 5 Robert-André Mauchin 🐧 2024-06-15 05:21:55 UTC
Note that the other one is coming from a PR not tagged security, while this commit is coming from a PR tagged security.

Comment 6 Robert-André Mauchin 🐧 2024-06-15 05:23:13 UTC
Actually I wonder if we shouldn't backport the other https://code.videolan.org/videolan/dav1d/-/merge_requests?scope=all&state=merged&label_name[]=security

Comment 7 Aoife Moloney 2024-11-13 12:06:09 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora Linux 39 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora Linux 39 on 2024-11-26.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
'version' of '39'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, change the 'version'
to a later Fedora Linux version. Note that the version field may be hidden.
Click the "Show advanced fields" button if you do not see it.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora Linux 39 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora Linux, you are encouraged to change the 'version' to a later version
prior to this bug being closed.

Comment 8 Aoife Moloney 2024-11-27 22:59:56 UTC
Fedora Linux 39 entered end-of-life (EOL) status on 2024-11-26.

Fedora Linux 39 is no longer maintained, which means that it
will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we
are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora Linux
please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Note that the version
field may be hidden. Click the "Show advanced fields" button if you do not see
the version field.

If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against an
active release.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.

Comment 9 Fabio Valentini 2024-11-28 23:40:45 UTC
With the Fedora 39 EOL, all current branches of Fedora and EPEL 10 and 9 have versions of dav1d that are not affected by this bug, hence the EOL closure for Fedora 39 is correct.
