As well as hdparm it's recommended that smartmontools is also installed. Nwipe utilises smartmontools for detecting some drive serial numbers but also populating page 2 and subsequent pages of the drive pdf status report with disk drive smart data. Nwipe also uses the Linux kernel hardware monitoring system, so the kernel hwmon module should also be installed. So for full functionality of all nwipe features both hdparm, smartmontools and hwmon should all be installed.
