Description Jakub Sporek 2024-03-06 19:11:08 UTC
Description of problem:

When hitting Super+/ to show Launcher, all Gnome Hotkeys stops working. Also Launcher doesnt show any search results...

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
1.2.0

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. hit Super+/ (with Tile Windows option enabled)
2. write something in the search dialog

Actual results:

All Gnome hotkeys stops working (Especially SUPER hotkey).
Launcher Search doesn't show any results.
Also corner hotspots aren't working anymore (going with the cursor to the upper left corner doesn't show overview.)
Can't switch desktops.
Whole system behaves weird, but maybe it's just because of no hotkey is doing anything.

Expected results:

Search for apps or something and show the results.
Doesn't mess with the Gnome hotkeys

Additional info:

I have to then logout - login again to reset.

A while back, the PopOS launcher was removed from the pop-shell extension and rewritten as a separate rust binary (see bug 2018733). That probably explains why you're not seeing any search results. I don't know what is causing the other side effects, but I was able to reproduce them. The same thing doesn't happen for me on Fedora and newer versions of GNOME. I tried updating the code snapshot to the latest from the upstream master_jammy branch (which still has GNOME 40 compatibility, unlike the master_mantic branch), but it didn't resolve the issue.

As a workaround, I'm just going to disable the super+/ shortcut by default, to avoid entering into this condition. If anyone installs pop-launcher separately, they can add that shortcut back.
