Description of problem: It's not possible to install gnome-shell-extension-system-monitor-applet and gnome-shell-extension-system-monitor as they have a file conflict on /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/org.gnome.shell.extensions.system-monitor.gschema.xml . Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): gnome-shell-extension-system-monitor-46~rc-1.fc40.noarch gnome-shell-extension-system-monitor-applet-1:38-27.20231104git0f042e8.fc40.noarch How reproducible: Always. Steps to Reproduce: 1. dnf install gnome-shell-extension-system-monitor-applet 2. dnf install gnome-shell-extension-system-monitor Actual results: Error: Transaction test error: file /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/org.gnome.shell.extensions.system-monitor.gschema.xml from install of gnome-shell-extension-system-monitor-46~rc-1.fc40.noarch conflicts with file from package gnome-shell-extension-system-monitor-applet-1:38-27.20231104git0f042e8.fc40.noarch Expected results: Successful installation. Additional info: Either the schema file should be renamed or they should conflict explicitly (via Conflicts: tag) because they provide similar features. I like the -applet extension better because it has graphs instead of numeric readout, but it's not compatible with GNOME 46 yet (I'll open a separate bug for that).
Hello, Thank you very much for reporting this issue. I've triggered a pull request upstream here: https://github.com/mgalgs/gnome-shell-system-monitor-applet/pull/65 But, the original goal to only rename a file and modify its references in the project is in discussion about implementing a solution that will lead the applet to deal programmatically with it. The original patch proposed in the pull request could be applied to the Fedora rpm package while the discussion progresses to a implemented solution. This bug report, is probably dependent with #2268402, so I tend to delay a little bit the application of any solution, even if Fedora 40 is close. Any comment are welcome. Cordially, -- NVieville
This message is a reminder that Fedora Linux 40 is nearing its end of life. Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora Linux 40 on 2025-05-13. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a 'version' of '40'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, change the 'version' to a later Fedora Linux version. Note that the version field may be hidden. Click the "Show advanced fields" button if you do not see it. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora Linux 40 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora Linux, you are encouraged to change the 'version' to a later version prior to this bug being closed.
Still reproducible on rawhide: Transaction failed: Rpm transaction failed. - file /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/org.gnome.shell.extensions.system-monitor.gschema.xml conflicts between attempted installs of gnome-shell-extension-system-monitor-applet-1:38-36.20250319git184bc34.fc43.noarch and gnome-shell-extension-system-monitor-48.1-1.fc43.noarch
