After upgrade Fedora 38 to 39, this same version of mc 4.8.30 doesn't display utf8 signs properly (e.g. polish) in file and directory names, but only in views by ssh connection. On local filesystem and by ftp connection all is OK. In F3 viewer and F4 editor, by ssh connection all is OK too. For example, by ssh connection mc display name of file: "abc304205305233LL", correctly should be: "abcąśLL" Reproducible: Always Actual Results: mc display file name: "abc304205305233LL" Expected Results: should be: "abcąśLL"
Created attachment 2024846 [details] screenshot of mc
That king of effects really depends on what kind of terminal application is used and what in that application terminal session $TERM env variable this application negotiates. mc almost 100% relies on term description taken from terminfo so is UTF-8mcharacters are not correctly displayed that really depends on those two factors.
