Description Dennis Gilmore 2024-04-18 12:50:44 UTC
after a recent serises of updates I noticed that my laptops battery monitor was not working. after digging it came down to missing firmware.

with 060 I have in the initramfs
/usr/lib/modules/6.8.6-300.fc40.aarch64/kernel/drivers/remoteproc
/usr/lib/modules/6.8.6-300.fc40.aarch64/kernel/drivers/remoteproc/qcom_common.ko.xz
/usr/lib/modules/6.8.6-300.fc40.aarch64/kernel/drivers/remoteproc/qcom_pil_info.ko.xz
/usr/lib/modules/6.8.6-300.fc40.aarch64/kernel/drivers/remoteproc/qcom_q6v5.ko.xz
/usr/lib/modules/6.8.6-300.fc40.aarch64/kernel/drivers/remoteproc/qcom_q6v5_pas.ko.xz
/usr/lib/modules/6.8.6-300.fc40.aarch64/kernel/drivers/remoteproc/qcom_sysmon.ko.xz

modules that were not there in 059. It is better that they are in the initrd as when booting from USB you have to blacklist qcom_q6v5_pas to prevent the USB storage from disconnecting and reconnecting changing device node after mounting. however it needs firmware. In my case, I need two of the files in /lib/firmware/qcom/sc8280xp/LENOVO/21BX/; however, a 3rd is needed by the MSM driver. So all 4 should be included for completeness. The needed files end in .mbn in Fedora's and some other distros cases they are xz compressed, so are .mbn.xz there are other files for other systems in the qcom portion of the firmware tree

Reproducible: Always

This message is a reminder that Fedora Linux 40 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora Linux 40 on 2025-05-13.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
'version' of '40'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, change the 'version'
to a later Fedora Linux version. Note that the version field may be hidden.
Click the "Show advanced fields" button if you do not see it.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora Linux 40 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora Linux, you are encouraged to change the 'version' to a later version
prior to this bug being closed.
