Description Michael Katzmann 2024-04-22 01:37:29 UTC
1. Please describe the problem
Boot fails with "Bug: scheduling while atomic: kworker/3/3/369/0x000000002"
if the Ethernet is connected to the port.

If, after boot the cable is connected, the system hangs.

2. What is the Version-Release number of the kernel:
happens on 6.8.5 and 6.8.6.
Does NOT happen on 6.8.4

3. Did it work previously in Fedora? If so, what kernel version did the issue
*first* appear? Old kernels are available for download at
   https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=8 :

4. Can you reproduce this issue? If so, please provide the steps to reproduce
   the issue below:

Yes, boot into kernel 6.8.5 or 6.8.7 with Ethernet cable connected to router.

Reproducible: Always

Its possible that this is the problem ...

Comment 2 Michael Katzmann 2024-04-24 03:11:16 UTC
...or perhaps this https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=218740

Comment 3 Jan Pokorný [poki] 2024-04-25 11:27:33 UTC
Reporting the same was observed with Fujitsu Lifebook U759 based
on Intel platform, running 6.8.7-200.fc39.x86_64.

Attach the ethernet cable -> hang.

Some older kernels (used to) work just fine.

May provide further details, but I suspect the proposed fix as reported
might fix this.

Comment 4 Robert Marcano 2024-04-27 15:04:59 UTC
Same issue on a Lenovo ThinkPad P52s (LENOVO 20LCS0W800/20LCS0W800, BIOS N27ET53W (1.39 ) 03/19/2024).

Hopefully the upstream patch is pushed to the stable kernel versions soon enough. Tested with rawhide 6..9.0rc5 and it isn't yet included.

The proposed fix seems to work:

Comment 6 Justin M. Forbes 2024-05-03 13:20:47 UTC
Took a bit before upstream picked it up. I have it queued for 6.8.10 for Fedora.
