Please branch and build xvidcore in epel8. If you do not wish to maintain xvidcore in epel8, or do not think you will be able to do this in a timely manner, the EPEL Packagers SIG would be happy to be a co-maintainer of the package; please add the epel-packagers-sig group through https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/xvidcore/addgroup and grant it commit access, or collaborator access on epel* branches. I would also be happy to be a co-maintainer (FAS: orion). It builds fine with the substitution of %{version} for %{version_no_tilde}.
Done and done. Build in progress. Which package do you need xvidcore for?

Well, the initial thought was for ffmpeg <- amarok, but we'll see it I can manage to get through all of the deps. Thanks!

(In reply to Orion Poplawski from comment #3) > Well, the initial thought was for ffmpeg <- amarok, but we'll see it I can > manage to get through all of the deps. Thanks! @orion Which version of ffmpeg would you use there ? We used to provide ffmpeg 4.3 in rpmfusion for el8, but ffmpeg 4.4 (lastest 4.x) might also fit. Also if you want to get latest or even newer than el9 one, we will have problems. Please remind that all features cannot be reasonably enabled and maintained for the rest of the el8 lifetime. Given the legal review for anything related to ffmpeg codecs, best would be to minimize the versions available. But if ffmpeg5x cannot be cleared for el8 I think it's reasonable to have ffmpeg4 there. At least I'm not against having ffmpeg4 in el8+ (so el9 and fedoras) that would be also useful to restore vlc3 vaapi support there. I do not mean I will maintain the freeworld conterpart (someone will have to do the job). But at least it will help to fully migrate some packages still in rpmfusion for el8 whereas they are moved to fedora and el9+
@kwizart - I think it probably make sense to discuss this in an ffmpeg bug - so I've filed https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2280915 if you'd like to chime in there.
