xorg-x11-server-utils-7.1-4.fc6 xrandr -s doesn't do anything on my machine. gnome-display-properties has the same problem. No errors whatsoever are reported. I'm using the radeon driver on this machine (my work desktop). $ xrandr -q SZ: Pixels Physical Refresh *0 1600 x 1200 ( 411mm x 311mm ) *60 1 1400 x 1050 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 70 60 2 1280 x 1024 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 60 3 1440 x 900 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 60 4 1280 x 960 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 60 5 1280 x 800 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 70 60 6 1152 x 864 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 70 60 7 1280 x 768 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 70 60 8 1280 x 720 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 70 60 9 1024 x 768 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 60 70 10 832 x 624 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 11 800 x 600 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 60 72 56 12 640 x 480 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 60 73 13 720 x 400 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 70 14 640 x 360 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 70 60 15 416 x 312 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 16 400 x 300 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 72 60 Current rotation - normal Current reflection - none Rotations possible - normal Reflections possible - none $ xrandr -s 1 || echo error $ xrandr -q SZ: Pixels Physical Refresh *0 1600 x 1200 ( 411mm x 311mm ) *60 1 1400 x 1050 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 70 60 2 1280 x 1024 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 60 3 1440 x 900 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 60 4 1280 x 960 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 60 5 1280 x 800 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 70 60 6 1152 x 864 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 70 60 7 1280 x 768 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 70 60 8 1280 x 720 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 70 60 9 1024 x 768 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 60 70 10 832 x 624 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 11 800 x 600 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 60 72 56 12 640 x 480 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 60 73 13 720 x 400 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 70 14 640 x 360 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 70 60 15 416 x 312 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 16 400 x 300 ( 411mm x 311mm ) 75 72 60 Current rotation - normal Current reflection - none Rotations possible - normal Reflections possible - none
Thanks for the bug report. We have reviewed the information you have provided above, and there is some additional information we require that will be helpful in our diagnosis of this issue. Please attach your X server config file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.*.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the bugzilla file attachment link below. Could you please also try to run without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf whatsoever and let X11 autodetect your display and video card? Attach to this bug /var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt as well, please. We will review this issue again once you've had a chance to attach this information. Thanks in advance.

It's not a crasher, or a configuration problem. Either xrandr -s works, and it would be all fine, or some error reporting needs to trickle down to the user, which it doesn't right now.
Yeah, but the radeon driver spews tons of debugging noise to the log on output property changes, including for failures. So, really, log plz.
As I don't have access to the hardware anymore (and I'm pretty certain there weren't any related log messages in the X log file, otherwise I'd have uploaded them...).
