This is for Blocker Review tracking purposes, the original of the issue is reported here: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/orca/-/issues/534 Please, if you want to discuss or follow the issue, do it in the upstream tracker. Thanks. Reproducible: Always
Proposed as a Blocker for 41-final by Fedora user lruzicka using the blocker tracking app because: Violates the **Default application** release criterion.
It'd be good to give orca 47.beta a try, as it has a possibly relevant https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/orca/-/merge_requests/226 included.
Proposed an update to 47-beta: https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/orca/pull-request/3
The fix is rather https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/at-spi2-core/-/merge_requests/166 ; that orca commit seems to be an enhancement on top of the at-spi2 fix. I'm building at-spi2-core with the fix backported right now.
Discussed during the 2024-08-19 blocker review meeting: [1] The decision to classify this bug as a AcceptedBlocker (Beta) was made: "This is accepted as a Beta (not Final) blocker as a conditional violation of all desktop-related criteria for GNOME for all people who need a screen reader." https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2024-f571fdca4e should fix this (it's backed up in openQA testing ATM, there's a bit of a backlog).
Fix for this should be in now, so can you confirm, Lukas? thanks!
'orca' at a console does not crash for me. Not 100% sure that's the reproducer, though.
OK, so since Lukas is obviously busy, I went ahead and checked this. I got a 2024-08-19 ISO and confirmed that just running 'orca' from a console crashes, then got today's ISO and confirmed it no longer crashes. So, this bug is definitely fixed.
