Hi, Could you please branch and build gpm for EPEL 10 ? It is needed to build another package. Regards, Xavier
Are you sure? gpm is a service that provides a mouse cursor on text consoles.
I was surprised too, but gpm-devel is BR'ed in aalib's specfile and aalib's configure checks for gpm: checking for Gpm_Repeat in -lgpm... no aalib builds fine without gpm, I'll submit a PR which conditionally removes the BR for EL10. aalib's maintainers probably knows more, cc'ing them.
OK, I see that aalib is for ascii rendering, so it seems reasonable to integrate with gpm. gpm is still functional and useful. If you wish, I can add the epel10 subpackage.
I'll close this for now. If anybody wants gpm in epel, please reopen.

Re-opening, Robert wants it too.
Mouse cursor on text console is still helpful, e.g. when using out-of-band management and lacking proper network configuration for SSH. Aside of this, it enables w3m and elinks to be used with a mouse ;-) It's then a bit easier to fix a broken X/Wayland with a console browser and a mouse on a console.
I added epel-packagers-sig as comaintainer. Xavier or Robert, could one of you take care of this?
I'm taking care of it. Just a note, as epel-packagers-sig is likely on the way out, while this works for now, this might not be the best choice. Please add me (xavierb) and possibly Robert (robert) if he wants too.
Yes, add me (FAS: robert), too, please - looks like I should help taking care of it, given I use it.
Done.

These updates were submitted in spite of linuxconsoletools still not being available (bug 2335405). Because of this, they do not install. I've given them negative karma to keep them from being auto-pushed to stable. Please do not submit them to stable until linuxconsoletools is available. Ideally, once linuxconsoletools (and any relevant dependencies) are built for EPEL 10, they can just be attached to these existing updates to ensure they move to stable at the same time.
oh sorry, I thought this package was forgotten
I wanted to test if gpm actually works without linuxconsoletools (I'm personally interested in mouse usage on text console), because I don't know how to attach legacy (serial) joysticks and similar devices that linuxconsoletools support to RHEL-10-compatible hardware. Unfortunately, I didn't find the time yet, but it could be also an option, if it works, instead of branching linuxconsoletools.
