Description Athmane MOKRAOUI 2024-10-08 08:04:32 UTC
Dear community,
Azul,

I would like to propose the introduction of the Kabyle language in Fedora, particularly in the Anaconda installer and Anaconda WebUI, which are currently being translated. This addition would greatly benefit Kabyle-speaking users and berber people in general and enhance accessibility.

Anaconda installer is 57% translated.
Anaconda WebUI is 100% translated.

LibreOffice, Firefox and GNOME are shipping a `-kab` langpacks.

On GNU/Linux we generally use `kab_DZ` that can be mapped to `kab` UTF-8.

Kabyle on CLDR 45 : https://www.unicode.org/cldr/charts/45/summary/kab.html

Thank you for considering this request.
Tanemmirt.

The Integration of Kabyle Language in Fedora: A Step Towards Linguistic Inclusion

The Kabyle community has been eagerly anticipating the integration of their language into the Fedora operating system. This move represents a significant step towards embracing linguistic diversity and ensuring that technology is accessible to speakers of all languages. The Kabyle language, primarily spoken in the Kabylie region of Algeria, has a rich cultural heritage and is an integral part of its people's identity.

Efforts to include Kabyle in Fedora have been ongoing, with community members actively participating in translation and localization initiatives. The process involves meticulous work, from translating system interfaces to ensuring compatibility with existing applications. The inclusion of Kabyle language support in other major software like Mozilla Firefox, LibreOffice, and GNOME sets a precedent for its integration into Fedora.

The Fedora community has always been at the forefront of innovation and inclusivity, and the addition of Kabyle language support is a testament to this commitment. It not only empowers Kabyle speakers but also enriches the Fedora project by fostering a more diverse user base. The community's enthusiasm is palpable, as seen in discussions and contributions on the Fedora Discussion platform.

As the integration process progresses, it is clear that the Kabyle community's patience and dedication will soon be rewarded. The day when Fedora fully supports the Kabyle language is on the horizon, marking a milestone for linguistic inclusion in technology.

For those interested in contributing to this initiative or following its progress, further information can be found on the Fedora Discussion forum and the Fedora documentation on system locale and keyboard configuration. The glibc-langpack-kab package is also available, providing basic support for the Kabyle language in applications.

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora Linux 42 development cycle.
Changing version to 42.

Hi,

Updating this thread.

Anaconda WebUI is now translated : 97% to Kabyle language.
Anaconda installer is now translated : 93% to Kabyle.

And more translation in Kabyle are listed here : https://translate.fedoraproject.org/languages/kab/

We noticed that Fedora is not shipping the `libreoffice-langpack-kab`

Regards,
