Description Michel Lind 2024-11-14 19:12:52 UTC
Please branch and build openvpn in epel10.

If you do not wish to maintain openvpn in epel10,
or do not think you will be able to do this in a timely manner,
I would be happy to be a co-maintainer of the package (FAS: salimma);
please add me through https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/openvpn/adduser

Comment 2 David Sommerseth 2024-12-02 23:24:01 UTC
I've started the EPEL-10 work, basing it on OpenVPN 2.6.12.

The official Fedora Copr repo (community supported repo) is also enabled for EPEL-10 now: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/dsommers/openvpn-release-2.6/

Comment 3 David Sommerseth 2024-12-02 23:26:30 UTC
An initial first (scratch) build in Fedora Koji is about to complete: https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=126475020

Ping: can we get openvpn build on epel10?
The Fedora rawhide version builds with no modifications on epel10.
There is already an epel10 branch, so it looks like it just needs rawhide merged into it and built.
Are you all ok if I do that?

Comment 5 David Sommerseth 2024-12-17 22:08:52 UTC
It's in progress ... the branch exists, but not quite ready yet.

The epel10 branch will be based off the openvpn git master development snapshots in the beginning, since the OpenVPN 2.7 release is expected to happen before May 2025. Which I presume will be before the final RHEL-10 release.

Comment 6 Troy Dawson 2024-12-17 22:20:27 UTC
There are many people who use CentOS Stream, and those of us at Red Hat need openvpn.
May 2025 is about 6 months too late.

Comment 7 David Sommerseth 2024-12-18 16:08:13 UTC
Read again please: The epel10 branch will be based off the openvpn git master development snapshots in the beginning
Reason: We want something newer than 2.6 in a long-term stable enteprise distro.

If you need it more urgently, please test the Fedora Copr repos: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/dsommers/openvpn-release-2.6/

Comment 8 David Sommerseth 2024-12-18 19:11:07 UTC
First Koji scratch build of OpenVPN 2.7 git snapshot for EPEL-10: https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=126991063

Will clean this up a bit and push it out.

Comment 9 Troy Dawson 2024-12-18 19:14:59 UTC
Thank you

Comment 10 Carlos Santos 2024-12-19 16:36:09 UTC
Are you planning to port the NetworkManager-openvpn and NetworkManager-openvpn-gnome packages too?

Comment 11 Troy Dawson 2024-12-19 18:25:25 UTC
Yes, I am already a co-maintainer of them, for EPEL. Once openvpn is built, we will be able to build NetworkManager-openvpn*
