Description Fedora Release Engineering 2025-01-22 21:11:14 UTC
openbios failed to build from source in Fedora rawhide/f42

https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=128024068

For details on the mass rebuild see:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_42_Mass_Rebuild
Please fix openbios at your earliest convenience and set the bug's status to
ASSIGNED when you start fixing it. If the bug remains in NEW state for 8 weeks,
openbios will be orphaned. Before branching of Fedora 43,
openbios will be retired, if it still fails to build.

Still affects openbios.git. I filed an openbios bug: https://github.com/openbios/openbios/issues/18

I managed to do a successful scratch build in Rawhide, so I've launched full builds now.

Rawhide: https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=129171250
F42: https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=129171275

Comment 7 Richard W.M. Jones 2025-02-12 12:30:08 UTC
F42 failed. Rawhide built. There must be a missing update to some package in F42.

I think we've got a heisenbug, because my own scratch build against rawhide fails the same way as your F42 build fails.

Comment 9 Richard W.M. Jones 2025-02-12 12:54:55 UTC
I enabled malloc debugging in an F42 build, but no errors were shown.

I threw another F42 build at Koji on the theory that if it's a heisenbug, maybe
we should just keep doing it until it goes through.

If only glibc still had libSegFault.so we might have some hope of being able
to get a stack trace and diagnose things further.

Comment 10 Richard W.M. Jones 2025-02-12 13:05:54 UTC
It's definitely a heisenbug. After 3 attempts I got a successful build for f42:

This message is a reminder that Fedora Linux 42 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora Linux 42 on 2026-05-13.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
'version' of '42'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, change the 'version'
to a later Fedora Linux version. Note that the version field may be hidden.
Click the "Show advanced fields" button if you do not see it.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora Linux 42 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora Linux, you are encouraged to change the 'version' to a later version
prior to this bug being closed.
