Gnome-settings (sys-tray and the settings app) are not updating to the correct platform profile if it's modified by a method other than gnome-settings. If I modify the profile from the terminal (/sys/firmware/acpi/platform_profile) or using a FN key, the gnome profile doesn't update to show the new profile correctly I confirmed the kernel driver is doing a sysfs_notify correctly, but userspace seems to ignore it. I confirmed it is working under Ubuntu (though this is older Gnome). I tried disabling SELinux...just in case that was messing with it. Any suggestions on how to debug further or what is going on please? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Change profile to performance in terminal: echo performance > /sys/firmware/acpi/platform_profile 2. Check gnome-settings and confirm setting still shows balanced 3. Actual Results: Profile not updated correctly Expected Results: Profile updated correctly
This component is maintained by the GNOME project. Issues with it should be reported directly to GNOME at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/. This issue should only be kept open if it: 1. Relates to Fedora packaging or integration with other Fedora components 2. Is required for Fedora release processes, such as blocker bugs and freeze exceptions If this issue isn't needed for either of these two reasons, please: * create an issue with GNOME * add a link to the GNOME issue here * close this issue as CLOSED/UPSTREAM Thank you!

I'm not convinced this is a Gnome issue yet - it may be Fedora specific. Created upstream ticket https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues/3355
The root of the issue is now determined. TuneD does not enable the thinkpad_function_keys feature by default. I've submitted a PR for this: https://github.com/redhat-performance/tuned/pull/755 Hopefully it will be accepted and we can pull this into Fedora.
