Upgrading: glib2 x86_64 2.83.5-1.fc43 rawhide replacing glib2 x86_64 2.82.2-1.fc41 glib2-devel x86_64 2.83.5-1.fc43 rawhide replacing glib2-devel x86_64 2.82.2-1.fc41 Mate panel starts and crashes repeatedly. Killing mate-panel from terminal and relaunching yields the following: $mate-panel free(): invalid pointer Aborted (core dumped) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.update glib2 2.logi 3.mate-panel starts and crashes Actual Results: mate-panel crashes Expected Results: mate-panel start and function as expected. mate-panel-libs-1.28.2-5.fc42.x86_64 mate-panel-1.28.2-5.fc42.x86_64 This issue was previously reported pertaining to rawhide 42 and changed to fedora 42. The issue now exists in rawhide 43 after updated glib2 version. Rawhide with mate desktop is unusable with crashing mate-panel issue unresolved.
glib2 release 2.84 crashes mate-panel as before. Reverting to fedora 41 version restores functionality. Updating / installing... 1:glib2-2.82.2-1.fc41 2:glib2-devel-2.82.2-1.fc41 Cleaning up / removing... 3:glib2-devel-2.84.0-1.fc43 4:glib2-2.84.0-1.fc43
This matter was resolved to the extent related in comment 16 here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2326719 However, there may yet be an issue with glib2 versions >2.82 crashing the mate hardware sensors monitor panel applet.
