Description Anton Guda 2025-04-14 18:08:46 UTC
When i try to install python3-typer as the requirement for osbuild-tools, the install process terminates with error about file conflict.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.dnf5 install ./python3-typer*.rpm (with installed erlang)

Actual Results:
file /usr/bin/typer from install of python3-typer-cli-0.14.0-1.fc42.noarch conflicts with file from package erlang-dialyzer-26.2.5.9-2.fc43.x86_64
file /usr/share/man/man1/typer.1.gz from install of python3-typer-cli-0.14.0-1.fc42.noarch conflicts with file from package erlang-dialyzer-26.2.5.9-2.fc43.x86_64

Expected Results:
Clean install. erlang-dialyzer is a reqirement for erlang. So one of the files should be renamed.

Thank you for the report. I’ve opened bug 2359567 on the erlang side to discuss this with the erlang package maintainers. See my comments in that bug for analysis and possible solutions.

As a workaround, you should be able to install just python3-typer, which provides the "typer" Python package needed by osbuild, but doesn’t include the conflicting /usr/bin/typer entry point. It’s the wildcard that brings in python3-typer-cli.

I take it back: python3-typer Requires python3-typer-cli, so this isn’t a workaround. It might be possible for osbuild to depend on python3-typer-slim/python3dist(typer-slim) as a workaround instead. Some kind of workaround seems to be needed in F41/F42, since renaming python3-typer-cli’s /usr/bin/typer would be a breaking change, which is approximately as undesirable as the file conflict – maybe worse. Hmm.

I proposed a workaround in osbuild: https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/osbuild/pull-request/371

Comment 6 Anton Guda 2025-06-22 08:15:52 UTC
Seems to work for me. erlang failed to build on F43, but F42 build can bed used in this case.
Propose to close this bug.
