I would like to avoid branching the gtk-rs v0.20 / gtk4-rs v0.9 compat packages. Please try to port tiny-dfr to v0.22 / v0.11 first.
Ideally, also port to the latest version of rust-ini, which would avoid having to branch the rust-ini v0.18, ordered-multimap v0.4, and dlv-list v0.3 packages.

Comment 4 Licia Seiker 2026-04-01 23:16:11 UTC
I proposed a PR to tiny-dfr to bump cairo-rs and librsvg-rebind. Hope this resolves the issue.
However, cairo-rs 0.22 conflicts with freetype-rs 0.37, so it seems fedora rust-freetype-rs package should be bumped to 0.38 also.

Comment 5 Fabio Valentini 2026-04-02 16:10:19 UTC
Thanks! That should help a lot.

As for the freetype support functionality - tiny-dfr and alacritty are the only (indirect or direct) dependent applications. I'll take a look whether we can update to 0.38 or whether we'll need to provide packages for both 0.37 and 0.38 for the time being.

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora Linux 45 development cycle.
Changing version to 45.

Comment 7 Davide Cavalca 2026-09-23 05:16:07 UTC
Started processing this with ebranch but hit https://github.com/slopfest/sandogasa/issues/14

Comment 8 Michel Lind 2026-09-25 10:17:56 UTC
ebranch now fixed (thanks for the report! turns out to be a regression when doing some much needed performance optimization, and it's been broken for a few weeks)

Fabio just fixed freedesktop-icons to no longer pull in a lot of compat crates, so I will be chain-building this into epel10.4-build-side-152994

Remaining dependencies:

  Phase 1:
    - rust-cairo-sys-rs
    - rust-drm-fourcc
    - rust-drm-sys
    - rust-freetype-sys
    - rust-gir-format-check
    - rust-glib-macros
    - rust-glib-sys
    - rust-input-linux-sys
    - rust-input-sys
    - rust-privdrop

  Phase 2:
    - rust-drm-ffi
    - rust-freetype-rs
    - rust-gobject-sys
    - rust-input
    - rust-input-linux
  Phase 3:
    - rust-drm
    - rust-gio-sys
  Phase 4:
    - rust-gdk-pixbuf-sys
    - rust-glib
  Phase 5:
    - rust-cairo-rs
    - rust-gio
    - rust-librsvg-rebind-sys
  Phase 6:
    - rust-librsvg-rebind
  Phase 7:
    - rust-tiny-dfr

24 package(s) in 7 phase(s).

Comment 9 Fabio Valentini 2026-09-25 14:57:45 UTC
Updated status:

I've adapted the gtk-rs-core crates to drop feature subpackage that would be not installable due to old glib / gdk-pixbuf2 on c10s and built them in the WIP side-tag:

- rust-cairo-rs
- rust-cairo-sys-rs
- rust-freetype-rs
- rust-freetype-sys
- rust-gdk-pixbuf
- rust-gdk-pixbuf-sys
- rust-gio
- rust-gio-sys
- rust-gir-format-check
- rust-glib
- rust-glib-macros
- rust-glib-sys
- rust-gobject-sys
- rust-librsvg-rebind
- rust-librsvg-rebind-sys
- rust-x11-dl

You will likely need to make similar changes to the one made there in the libinput bindings too (i.e. the rust-input* crates) to make those install without errors too, since I doubt that c10s has new enough libinput to satisfy all dependencies.

You can use https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/rust-glib-sys/c/d26382f as a pattern of what is necessary to do.
