I won't be able to reproduce this, so hopefully there is enough information to investigate further if needed.

I ended deleting all the partitions to just install Fedora and then it worked just fine.

I would have liked to not have to do this but I did not see any other ways.

Updated description:

During Fedora installation on a Dell Latitude E6540 (BIOS A27), the Anaconda installer fails to create a boot entry via efibootmgr with the following error:

Hi,

So, you deleted everything and only installed Fedora on the machine? Do you happen to have the installation log from that handy? It would be interesting to see it.

The firmware version is almost six years old, and based on messages like "May 21 13:16:52 fedora kernel: *BAD*gran_size: 64K 	chunk_size: 32M 	num_reg: 10  	lose cover RAM: -16M" it may be corrupted and could certainly use an update. This is the best post I found: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/460934/does-this-line-in-a-log-mean-that-i-have-a-bad-ram-sector-or-chip explaining those messages.

Given all of that, it looks like the ESP gets created (at /dev/sda5) and has the right filesystem. The efibootmgr command created by anaconda looks good too... and efibootmgr does not complain when removing the temporary entry, so nothing obvious is popping out, especially since it finally succeeded for you. Too bad you don't have the system to play with, but I understand y'all wanted the computer to function. ;D

Hi Marta,

After it failed 2-3 times, I just deleted all partitions and installed Fedora (then proceeded to install Windows as dual boot )

I uploaded a sosreport after the failed installed, I don't know if the installation logs were captured that way.

Weirdly enough, when I deleted all the partitions, Windows would still NOT install by itself. But when I tried installing Fedora, it worked... and then I reduced the size of the partition and the dual install of Windows worked.

Thanks for that info, I'll eventually get back to doing a firmware update.
