Description of problem: As of writing, MariaDB 10.11 seems to be the latest MariaDB version in Fedora Rawhide. When looking to https://mariadb.org/about/#mariadb-server-long-term-release-maintenance-periods, MariaDB 11.4 (LTS), released earlier this year, has been skipped, however MariaDB 10.6 (LTS) was also skipped (10.5 -> 10.11). Is there any chance for a rebase to MariaDB 11.8 (LTS) once released? According to https://mariadb.org/11-8-is-lts/ MariaDB 11.8 GA should be already in the next days. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): mariadb10.11-10.11.11-8.fc43 Actual results: MariaDB 10.11 Expected results: MariaDB 11.8 - once released ;-) Additional info: https://mariadb.org/11-8-is-lts/ mentions yearly LTS releases, will this be the way to go?
Hi Robert, There is a Package Review process for the new MariaDB 11.8 version: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2368742
It's planned for Fedora 43, so you can watch the previously linked Bugzilla for updates. If this answers your question, please close this BZ.
Hi Robert, it's as Lukas says. Technically, we won't do rebases of an existing package to a new major version anymore, but will introduce a new versioned package variant. Practically, it is WIP, on fedora-review ATM. > https://mariadb.org/11-8-is-lts/ mentions yearly LTS releases, will this be the way to go? I don't know yet. My idea is to keep few LTS releases concurrently, plus one rolling release. But no promises there. I need to keep the amount of work manageable, so I'll see how it will go in the next ~12 months. I also maintain MariaDB in RHEL and I also discuss the release strategy regularly with the MariaDB upstream, so that we find solution that would work well for all of us. I hope skipping some LTSs will allow me to keep the work at manageable level while the rolling release could satisfy users always looking forward. I will be happy to continue the discussion with anyone interested, just not in this ticket. Feel free to leave me an e-mail in private, or ping me in an open discussion on Fedora mailing lists or Fedora Discussion. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 2368742 ***
