Description Ben Webb 2025-06-09 17:46:16 UTC
After updating a Fedora 42 system today, sfwbar no longer starts, reporting

sfwbar: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib64/sfwbar/libsfwbar.so: undefined symbol: xdg_popup_interface

This is with
sfwbar-1.0~beta16-1.fc42.x86_64
and
gtk-layer-shell-0.9.2-1.fc42.x86_64

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start a graphical Wayland environment.
2. Try to start sfwbar by running `sfwbar` from a terminal.
Actual Results:
sfwbar fails to start with the following error

sfwbar: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib64/sfwbar/libsfwbar.so: undefined symbol: xdg_popup_interface

Expected Results:
sfwbar starts normally.

Additional Information:
May be related to this issue: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=287046

sfwbar also works normally if gtk-layer-shell is downgraded from the current version (0.9.2) to version 0.9.0, as suggested in that FreeBSD issue.
