This package is being submitted for EPEL 9. It was previously available in Fedora 34 and has been revived due to its continued utility in directory-integrated environments. It depends on perl-Crypt-SmbHash (Bug 2374088), which has already been submitted for review. The attached tarball (smbldap-tools-epel9-rpm.tar.gz) contains the .spec file, .src.rpm, and mock build log. The SPEC file has been adapted appropriately for EPEL 9.
Hi Paul and reviewers, For easier access and visibility, I've also pushed the smbldap-tools EPEL 9 packaging work to GitHub: https://github.com/redadmin-k/smbldap-tools-epel9-rpm This repo contains: - The SPEC file adapted for EPEL 9 - The SRPM - Mock build logs Feel free to review or provide feedback there as well. Thanks!
Created attachment 2096124 [details] Package prepared by Akiyohi Kurita (redadmin-k, FAS account). This archive contains the SPEC file, SRPM, and mock build logs for smbldap-tools on EPEL 9.
Hi Paul, Just checking in if you’ve had a chance to look at this package review. Let me know if there’s anything further needed from my side. Best regards, Akiyohi Kurita (redadmin-k)
smbldap-tools is already a Fedora package. This is not really a package review request and more a branching request. @akito5623 you really need to review Fedora/EPEL docs. Your requests are causing undue confusion all over the place.
Thanks Jonathan for the clarification. I understand now that smbldap-tools already exists in Fedora and that this should be handled as a branching request, not a new package review. I’ll proceed with filing a branch request for EPEL 9 instead. Thanks again for your guidance!
Hi Paul, Since smbldap-tools already exists in Fedora, I understand that EPEL 9 requires a branch request. May I proceed with requesting the EPEL 9 branch for smbldap-tools, or would you prefer to handle it yourself? Thanks!
Hi, I think we can consider this ticket as an EPEL-9 branch request for smbldap-tools, so there's no need to raise a new one. I will do it but as I no longer use smbldap-tools myself, I would prefer that somebody else took over the package in the long term. That could possibly be you once you have learned about the proper processes in Fedora and become a sponsored package maintainer (see https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/package-maintainers/Joining_the_Package_Maintainers/). Any potential sponsor would need to be convinced that you understand the processes and packaging guidelines (https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/packaging-guidelines/).

Hi Paul-san Thank you very much for handling the EPEL-9 branch request for smbldap-tools. I appreciate your guidance and the helpful links. I’m interested in becoming a Fedora package maintainer in the future, so I will study the processes and packaging guidelines carefully. Please let me know if there’s anything I can help with regarding smbldap-tools in the meantime. Best regards, Akiyoshi Kurita
Hi, if you have any suggested improvements to the smbldap-tools packaging (or indeed any other package), you can submit a pull request (see https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/package-maintainers/Pull_Request_Guide/). Submitting useful pull requests could help with the sponsorship process.
Hi Paul-san Thank you so much for all your help and guidance. I truly appreciate the time you’re taking to support me and explain the processes so clearly. I feel I have so much to learn, but I’m eager to contribute and follow your advice. Please let me know if there’s anything I can do to help. Best regards, Akiyoshi Kurita
