Description Möhsün Babayev 2025-06-24 20:11:37 UTC
Description of problem:
I received a notification on my Android 15 smartphone from ProtonMail app. This notification was forwarded to my computer by KDE Connect. A missed the notification initially and after about 10 minutes decided to check it out from the "Notifications" button in the system tray. Once I clicked the "Notifications" icon, nothing happened for a few seconds and the icon remained in the clicked-in state. After that, Plasma Shell restarted and I got the crash notification from ABRT.

Version-Release number of selected component:
plasma-workspace-6.4.0-1.fc42

I opened the notifications list after I ended screen recording, and as I was reading through the notifications, suddenly plasmashell just stopped. I also opened the notification of Thunderbird, which had displayed 6 notifications in total.

The crash happened right when clicked on the notifications applet. The panel froze for a second or two and reappeared.

After running an "sudo apt full-upgrade -y", at the next boot this problem happened.

Comment 17 Mr. Beedell, Roke Julian Lockhart (RJLB) 2025-08-07 10:57:52 UTC
I was bombarded with WebNotifications (via Firefox, from Proton Mail). When I invoked the flyout of the System Tray that contains plasmoids that aren't currently relevant, and selected Notifications, Plasma Shell hung for approximately 2 seconds, then crashed. This isn't an ANR.

The notification applet appeared on my panel and I though I had a notification. When I clicked on the applet, it was empty and my whole desktop crashed after a second or two.

Some seconds after authenticating via `KScreenLocker` (after resuming from sleep), `coredumpd`, (and, therefore, `abrt`), *alongside two instances of `drkonqi`*, reported that `plasmashell` had crashed. I didn't notice the crash.

pressed play in Elisa, crash occurred twice very quickly, and on the third try music successfully started playing.

This message is a reminder that Fedora Linux 42 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora Linux 42 on 2026-05-13.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
'version' of '42'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, change the 'version'
to a later Fedora Linux version. Note that the version field may be hidden.
Click the "Show advanced fields" button if you do not see it.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora Linux 42 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora Linux, you are encouraged to change the 'version' to a later version
prior to this bug being closed.
