I recently updated my system, got this error message described in this source (https://www.spinics.net/linux/fedora/fedora-users/msg528992.html) I applied this solution from this source (https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/my-update-doesnt-go-through-because-of-a-vlc-conflict/156696/3), but this did not fix anything (as far as I could tell). I changed from akmods-nvidia to akmods-nvidia-open using the commands below from this source (https://rpmfusion.org/Howto/NVIDIA#Kernel_Open) sudo dnf install rpmfusion-nonfree-release-tainted sudo dnf swap akmod-nvidia akmod-nvidia-open This did nothing as far as I could tell. The final solution was this simple. cd ~/.config tar -c plasma* -f plasma.tar rm -r plasma* This got me a stable plasmashell. I then got the error that software rendering is in use. I clicked the "Defaults" button, which set the renderer from "Software" to "Automatic". I applied the setting, logged out and back in again. Now everything works. Watch as plasma indefinetely crashes Actual Results: Plasmashell crashes three times Crash Handler starts collecting data using gdb (~6GB memory usage per gdb process). CPU avg 9.9 something 10 more Crash Handlers for plasmashell spawns 59/64GB RAM in use while gdb crash handling Expected Results: Logs in and get stable plasmashell
Forgot to mention that in Settings > Input & Output > Screen Edges I had configured the top left corner of my screen to "Overview". During the indefinite crash of plasmashell; if I moved my cursor to the top left of the screen, KWin crashed. During my debugging session, fortunately I had KRunner available, but (I assume) that when I was using KRunner, gdb was running in the background, so that crashed aswell.
