Description Adam Williamson 2025-07-08 17:05:22 UTC
This is a downstream report of https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/rhythmbox/-/issues/2113 , filed for blocker bureaucracy purposes. Since Rawhide updated to pygobject 3.52, Rhythmbox no longer launches if plugins are enabled (which is the default). Proposing as a Final blocker per the "Default application functionality" criterion as applied to Rawhide - https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_43_Final_Release_Criteria#Default_application_functionality .

It seems in the most recent Workstation WG meeting they agreed to remove Rhythmbox from the default install:

"Removal of Rhythmbox from Default Install

Michael Catanzaro proposed removing Rhythmbox from the default Fedora install, citing its seven-year history as a topic and its current unsuitability as a core application. Allan Day expressed support for its removal, noting its antiquated design and GTK 3 status, while Chris Murphy indicated they did not use it and had no strong opinion. The group approved the removal due to a lack of objections."

Doing this would address the blocker - the fact that the app doesn't work would still be a bug, but no longer a blocker.

Done with pagure.io/fedora-comps/pull-request/1147 , so marking this as no longer a blocker.
