Description of problem:
All updates of Fedora 42 Silverblue after June 26, 2025 break all sound functionality (May be specific to Dell laptops) producing only Dummy Output when volume is adjusted. This is on a Dell Inc. Inspiron 3501 laptop.

Last working commit appears to be:
fe224d56875628b63af103eb1fadcc9eff14ad7c8c0ce6c6413a45df38ed9b04

lspci -k | grep audio:

How reproducible:
Update through GNOME Software or rpm-ostree at command line. On reboot, sound does not work. Sound works again after rolling back to previous deployment.

Update Fedora 42 Silverblue

Actual results:
No sound

Expected results:
Would like sound :)

To add some follow-up information: I tried rebasing my system to the Fedora 43 prerelease of Silverblue and encounter the same problem. Sound controls only show dummy output.

UCM configuration looks fine, too. Could you check wireplumber logs? Another way is to use `spa-acp-tool` to test the PipeWire ALSA code.

I'm not exactly sure what to do with spa-acp-tool. From what I can see there the sound card seems to be detected, but sound doesn't work. Is there a specific command you need me to run there?

To gather wireplumber debug logs:

  systemctl --user stop wireplumber
  WIREPLUMBER_DEBUG="spa.*:5" wireplumber

With spa-acp-tool run list-profiles command and use '-v' verbose argument.

It looks that it's similar to bug#2393552 . There is also a workaround, but it is not applicable for Silverblue. I will probably create a fix for the alsa-ucm package.
