Description Fedora Release Engineering 2025-07-31 09:55:04 UTC
python-atomicwrites failed to build from source in Fedora rawhide/f43

https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=135242898

For details on the mass rebuild see:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_43_Mass_Rebuild
Please fix python-atomicwrites at your earliest convenience and set the bug's status to
ASSIGNED when you start fixing it. If the bug remains in NEW state for 8 weeks,
python-atomicwrites will be orphaned. Before branching of Fedora 44,
python-atomicwrites will be retired, if it still fails to build.

Comment 4 Ben Boeckel 2025-07-31 12:16:24 UTC
I propose we retire the package. Upstream has archived it and I've removed it from `khard` and `khal` in Fedora 43 already. We're down to:

python3-pytest-golden-0:0.2.2-5.fc43.noarch
python3-spyder-0:6.0.5-4.fc43.noarch
python3-vdirsyncer-0:0.19.3-4.fc43.noarch
vdirsyncer-0:0.19.3-4.fc43.noarch

I can take care of `vdirsyncer`. Spyder is tracked in Bug #2379145 (which could be backported). I've filed https://github.com/oprypin/pytest-golden/pull/8 upstream with pytest-golden to get it removed there too.

FEDORA-2025-020e08cd67 (vdirsyncer-0.19.3-6.fc44) has been submitted as an update to Fedora 44.

Hello. This is a bulk comment.

This package still needs to be rebuilt and/or shipped with Python 3.14.0rc2+ bytecode in Fedora 43.

The Beta Freeze of Fedora 43 is scheduled to start today. Please prioritize this bugzilla accordingly.

Thanks.

Comment 11 Ben Boeckel 2025-09-23 20:02:39 UTC
As stated in comment 4, I believe this should be retired. I have PRs to upstreams for the two other packages using this. If we backport those patches, we can retire this.

I've submitted PRs to spyder and pytest-golden to remove their deps on this package so that we can retire it:

https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/spyder/pull-request/34

https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/python-pytest-golden/pull-request/1

Comment 14 Karolina Surma 2025-10-14 14:54:16 UTC
Ben, will you also retire this on F43?

Comment 15 Ben Boeckel 2025-10-14 15:03:12 UTC
Yes, done.

Comment 16 Karolina Surma 2025-10-14 16:15:46 UTC
Thank you :)

Comment 17 Miro Hrončok 2025-10-14 16:35:44 UTC
I am afraid there is no retirement after the final freeze without releng intervention:

$ koji list-pkgs --show-blocked --tag f44 --quiet --package python-atomicwrites
python-atomicwrites     f44                                      mbaldessari     [BLOCKED]

$ koji list-pkgs --show-blocked --tag f43 --quiet --package python-atomicwrites
python-atomicwrites     f43                                      mbaldessari

releng issue filed: https://pagure.io/releng/issue/13022
