Here is the x86_64 version of this file: [Thumbnailer Entry] TryExec=/usr/bin/gdk-pixbuf-thumbnailer Exec=/usr/bin/gdk-pixbuf-thumbnailer -s %s %u %o MimeType=image/png;image/jpeg;image/gif;image/tiff; I wonder what the 32-bit version of the file looks like. For multilib to work, it needs to be identical. But I guess I wouldn't be too surprised if the 32-bit version points to a 32-bit version of the executable under a different path....
(In reply to Michael Catanzaro from comment #5) > But I guess I wouldn't be too surprised if > the 32-bit version points to a 32-bit version of the executable under a > different path.... Worst case scenario: need to move the thumbnailers from /usr/share to /usr/lib and /usr/lib64?
Contents of the file in gdk-pixbuf2-2.43.3-4.fc43.i686: ``` [Thumbnailer Entry] TryExec=/usr/bin/gdk-pixbuf-thumbnailer Exec=/usr/bin/gdk-pixbuf-thumbnailer -s %s %u %o MimeType=image/png;image/gif;image/jpeg;image/tiff; ``` So it is semantically identical, but the *order* of entries in the MimeType filed is different, which causes this issue.
Should be fixed by gdk-pixbuf2-2.43.3-5.fc43. However, Bodhi is currently broken, so I'm not able to create an update. I'm going to give up now. Anybody else should feel free to create the update once Bodhi has recovered.
Looks like the update was created automatically: https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2025-6ba949319b Please complain if you still have trouble with gdk-pixbuf2-2.43.3-5.fc43.
The problem still persists when trying to install the 2.43.3-5.fc43 packages downloaded from koji. The packages support a different set of formats. The i686 build does not use glycin and thus only supports the formats supported in gdk-pixbuf and enabled by default when building. The x86_64 build uses glycin and thus supports everything supported by glycin. The supported mime types of the i686 build are: MimeType=image/gif;image/jpeg;image/png;image/tiff; And for x86_64: MimeType=application/ico;image/avif;image/bmp;image/gif;image/gif;image/heic;image/heif;image/ico;image/icon;image/jpeg;image/jpeg;image/jxl;image/png;image/png;image/qoi;image/raw;image/svg;image/svg+xml;image/svg+xml-compressed;image/svg-xml;image/tiff;image/tiff;image/vnd.adobe.svg+xml;image/vnd.microsoft.icon;image/webp;image/x-MS-bmp;image/x-bmp;image/x-dds;image/x-exr;image/x-ico;image/x-icon;image/x-portable-anymap;image/x-portable-bitmap;image/x-portable-graymap;image/x-portable-pixmap;image/x-qoi;image/x-tga;image/x-win-bitmap;text/ico;text/xml-svg; Were you maybe looking at the supported mime types for x86_64 builds before the switch to glycin in 2.43.3?
Unfortunately yes. Well, the glycin package has: # https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/EncourageI686LeafRemoval ExcludeArch: %{ix86} We can probably just remove it. Fabio, do you agree? glycin is a huge security improvement, so we surely don't want to disable it on x86_64.
Compiling glycin takes up a huge amount of RAM, so it might just not compile on i686, but I can try ...

Thanks Fabio. OK folks, try again with 2.43.3-6.fc43 please. Matthias has suggested we stop packaging the thumbnailer entirely and rely on glycin's thumbnailer instead. That can be a task for another day, though.
(In reply to Michael Catanzaro from comment #14) > Thanks Fabio. OK folks, try again with 2.43.3-6.fc43 please. Just kidding, the new build is actually 2.43.3-7.fc43.
2.43.3-7.fc43 installs fine, but fails to generate thumbnails from nautilus. A new file is added to `.cache/thumbnails/fail/gnome-thumbnail-factory` when opening a folder with an unthumbnailed image (tested png and svg). Manually running something like `/usr/bin/gdk-pixbuf-thumbnailer -s 128 /usr/share/icons/hicolor/256x256/apps/firefox.png /tmp/test.png` works fine though. Also showing existing thumbnails works fine in nautilus. Should I file a new bug for that?
Probably not worth it. I will disable the gdk-pixbuf thumbnailer and look into making sure the glycin thumbnailer gets installed.
