In a Rocky 8.10 machine I am unable to update the singularity-ce package through the package manager, dnf in this case. It asks for a GLIBC package version, 2.34, that is not available in the Rocky 8 appstream or EPEL. The current GLIBC package version is glibc-2.28-251.el8_10.25.x86_64 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Have singularity-ce version 4.3.2 installed from EPEL repo 2. dnf update singularity-ce Actual Results: Last metadata expiration check: 1:33:55 ago on Wed 03 Sep 2025 01:55:41 PM CEST. Error: Problem: cannot install the best update candidate for package singularity-ce-4.3.2-1.el8.x86_64 - nothing provides libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.34)(64bit) needed by singularity-ce-4.3.3-1.el8.x86_64 from epel - nothing provides libfuse3.so.3(FUSE_3.12)(64bit) needed by singularity-ce-4.3.3-1.el8.x86_64 from epel (try to add '--skip-broken' to skip uninstallable packages or '--nobest' to use not only best candidate packages) Expected Results: Package updates correctly Additional Information: NAME="Rocky Linux" VERSION="8.10 (Green Obsidian)" ID="rocky" ID_LIKE="rhel centos fedora" VERSION_ID="8.10" PLATFORM_ID="platform:el8" PRETTY_NAME="Rocky Linux 8.10 (Green Obsidian)" ANSI_COLOR="0;32" LOGO="fedora-logo-icon" CPE_NAME="cpe:/o:rocky:rocky:8:GA" HOME_URL="https://rockylinux.org/" BUG_REPORT_URL="https://bugs.rockylinux.org/" SUPPORT_END="2029-05-31" ROCKY_SUPPORT_PRODUCT="Rocky-Linux-8" ROCKY_SUPPORT_PRODUCT_VERSION="8.10" REDHAT_SUPPORT_PRODUCT="Rocky Linux" REDHAT_SUPPORT_PRODUCT_VERSION="8.10"
Hi - I've changed the categorisation to Fedora EPEL / epel8 as that's what the detail in the report shows. Off the top of my head - no idea how this can happen, given that the packages are built in Fedora EPEL project builders that shouldn't have anything not available in the distro. Also that the packages built by the upstream project at https://github.com/sylabs/singularity/releases/tag/v4.3.3 are reportedly fine. Unlikely to have time to look into this in the next week or two, but will eventually get there.
