Description Janne Blomqvist 2007-05-07 19:38:32 UTC
Description of problem:

When user accounts are in ldap and/or krb5, dbus/hal doesn't work, and
subsequently you need root access to access cd-roms, usb sticks and other
removable media.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

dbus-1.0.0-6.el5
hal-0.5.8.1-19.el5
openldap-clients-2.3.27-5

How reproducible:

Every time.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Login as user with nss data in ldap, auth info in ldap or krb5
2. lshal command produces

error: dbus_bus_get: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a
reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the
message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the
network connection was broken.

3a. Login as a local user.

3b. Type "getent passwd $USERNAME" >> /etc/passwd and add corresponding entry to
/etc/shadow as well (i.e. copy the user data from ldap to local /etc/passwd).

4. Now lshal command produces the expected result, and attaching a removable
device shows up on the gnome desktop etc.

No additional minor releases are planned for Production Phase 2 in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, and therefore Red Hat is closing this bugzilla as it does not meet the inclusion criteria as stated in:
