Description Atsushi 2025-09-21 07:06:57 UTC
When running Blender on Fedora Workstation 43(GNOME, Wayland), the Preferences window does not open and all menus starting from the File menu are grayed out.

I test flatpak(flathub), occur the issue too. So the issue may be not rpm-specific. On Fluxbox(host) and Fedora KDE Edition(gnome-boxes), the menus work correctly.

This suggests the problem is related to the GNOME Wayland session rather than Blender itself.

Version-Release number of selected component:

blender-4.5.3-1.fc43.x86_64
xdg-desktop-portal-gnome-49.0-1.fc43.x86_64
xdg-desktop-portal-gtk-1.15.3-2.fc43.x86_64
xdg-desktop-portal-1.20.3-2.fc43.x86_64

Some Environments are in Additional Information

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Install Blender from Fedora RPM packages or Install blender from flatpak install com.blender.Blender
2.Run Blender
3.Try to open Preferences or any menu starting from the File menu.
Actual Results:
The Preferences window does not open.
All menus starting from the File menu are grayed out.

Expected Results:
The Preferences window should open normally.
Menus should be accessible as expected.

Additional Information:

xdg-desktop-portal warnings (shown in all environments):

EGL errors:

- Fedora Workstation 42 and 43 (host, NVIDIA driver): no error.
- gnome-boxes guests (all), and host with nouveau driver (Workstation 43):

libEGL warning: egl: failed to create dri2 screen EGL Error (0x3009): EGL_BAD_MATCH: Arguments are inconsistent

Despite EGL errors, KDE Edition and Fedora 42 guests do not show the grayed-out behavior.

- Fedora 43 Workstation host: no EGL error, but menus are grayed out.
- Fedora 43 Workstation gnome-boxes guest: EGL error occurs and menus are grayed out.

It seems like an issue with Gnome Wayland running on NVidia driver. Can you file the bug upstream on GNOME Shell?

Comment 2 Atsushi 2025-09-25 04:06:04 UTC
Thanks for your message.
This bug has both NVIDIA proprietry driver and nouveau driver.
In the case, Shoud I file the bug upstream on GNOME Shell?

If so, I will file the bug on GNOME shell.

This bug has fixed. Blender version both 4.5.3-1(I downgrade it) and 4.5.4-1 are OK.
If it related to other packages, this bug is fixed.
Thank you for your hard work.
