Hello, Please note that this comment was generated automatically by https://pagure.io/releng/blob/main/f/scripts/ftbfs-fti/follow-policy.py If you feel that this output has mistakes, please open an issue at https://pagure.io/releng/ Your package (kdelibs3) Fails To Install in Fedora 44: can't install kdelibs3-devel: - nothing provides libkdnssd-devel needed by kdelibs3-devel-3.5.10-133.fc43.x86_64 If you know about this problem and are planning on fixing it, please acknowledge so by setting the bug status to ASSIGNED. If you don't have time to maintain this package, consider orphaning it, so maintainers of dependent packages realize the problem. If you don't react accordingly to the policy for FTBFS/FTI bugs (https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Fails_to_build_from_source_Fails_to_install/), your package may be orphaned in 8+ weeks. P.S. The data was generated solely from koji buildroot, so it might be newer than the latest compose or the content on mirrors. To reproduce, use the koji/local repo only, e.g. in mock: $ mock -r fedora-44-x86_64 --config-opts mirrored=False install kdelibs3-devel P.P.S. If this bug has been reported in the middle of upgrading multiple dependent packages, please consider using side tags: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Updates_Policy/#updating-inter-dependent-packages Thanks!
What a surprise (/s), if a script mindlessly retires a handful packages that a whole stack depends on, then everything will FTI.
The problem is that kdnssd-avahi which provides libkdnssd-devel, was orphaned. commit 7da8141ec6c6add6e514e852cb9d91c30bd1d901 (HEAD -> rawhide, origin/rawhide, origin/main, origin/HEAD) Author: Maxwell G <maxwell> Date: Wed Sep 24 19:19:12 2025 -0500 Orphaned for 6+ weeks It's not a bug in kdelibs3 but rather a problem in retire process which removes packages without to check the dependencies
> but rather a problem in retire process which removes packages without to check the dependencies Actually packager dashboard had been raising warnings from one months ago (although "right now" it does not show this problem, but I guess package dashboard are now updating database again)
The package was orphaned for 6 weeks, and as maintainers of the dependent package(s), you did not act on it. The process regularly checks dependencies and sends emails to the dependent package maintainers. Feel free to improve that process if you think it has problems. But orphaned packages don't stay in the distro just because they are depended on. Either way, now you can unretire the retired package and take care of it, drop the dependency if possible, or orphan kdelibs3 as well. It is now, in fact, a bug in kdelibs3.
Hello, Please note that this comment was generated automatically by https://pagure.io/releng/blob/main/f/scripts/ftbfs-fti/follow-policy.py If you feel that this output has mistakes, please open an issue at https://pagure.io/releng/ This package fails to install and maintainers are advised to take one of the following actions: - Fix this bug and close this bugzilla once the update makes it to the repository. (The same script that posted this comment will eventually close this bugzilla when the fixed package reaches the repository, so you don't have to worry about it.) or - Move this bug to ASSIGNED if you plan on fixing this, but simply haven't done so yet. or - Orphan the package if you no longer plan to maintain it. If you do not take one of these actions, the process at https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Fails_to_build_from_source_Fails_to_install/#_package_removal_for_long_standing_ftbfs_and_fti_bugs will continue. This package may be orphaned in 7+ weeks. This is the first reminder (step 3) from the policy. Don't hesitate to ask for help on https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/devel@lists.fedoraproject.org/ if you are unsure how to fix this bug.
KDE version 3/4 is quite old and nobody seems to need it anymore. Since the new KDE version has been around for a long time, it makes no sense to keep it in Rawhide. All KDE 3/4 stuff should be orphaned in Rawhide. Thank you.
If you want to get rid of the KDE 3/4 compatibility libraries, you can give the packages to me. Or you can officially orphan them and I will take them. Please do not retire them directly, or we end up with even more of a mess like the one we have now. I think the compatibility libraries are still useful to keep legacy applications running.
Hi Keven, i even orphaned kdelibs3, Feel free to take it as you already commaintner of this package https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/kdelibs3
Looks like you orphaned it only in EPEL (which I am not interested in), you are still the owner in Fedora according to Pagure.
This Pagure interface is really a confusing mess, e.g., I cannot figure out how to set specifically the EPEL branches and the EPEL Bugzilla contact to orphan without orphaning the package also for Fedora, and I do not know either why you are still listed as the Fedora Bugzilla contact even though you are not even a member of the package anymore. I miss the good old pkgdb, grrr!
On the left, there is: Bugzilla Assignee: Fedora: than EPEL: kkofler [Edit] Click the Edit button, then click Reset to Defaults. Then click the Edit button again and enter orphan for EPEL.
Thanks. I guess what confused me and made me miss the "Edit" button was the strange icon for "Edit" (which is a reload icon rather than an edit icon for some reason).
This package has changed maintainer in Fedora. Reassigning to the new maintainer of this component.
