Description Anna Bedia 2025-10-03 12:34:59 UTC
1. Please describe the problem:
Booting with Kernel: 6.16.9-200.fc42.x86_64 results in a black screen with no desktop environment loading.

Additional context: on kernel 6.16.8-200.fc42.x86_64 Persistent system lag and performance instability despite high-spec hardware. Issues occur under normal workloads, possibly linked to GPU driver or kernel interactions.

2. What is the Version-Release number of the kernel:

6.16.9-200.fc42.x86_64

3. Did it work previously in Fedora? If so, what kernel version did the issue
*first* appear? Old kernels are available for download at
   https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=8 : 6.16.9-200.fc42.x86_64

N/A

4. Can you reproduce this issue? If so, please provide the steps to reproduce
   the issue below:

- Boot Fedora Linux 42 on custom-built Dell XPS 13 9350 (Lunar Lake CPU) laptop with kernel 6.16.9-200.fc42.x86_64
- Observe system attempting to load.
- System shows black screen, no desktop environment or GUI.

5. Does this problem occur with the latest Rawhide kernel? To install the
Rawhide kernel, run ``sudo dnf install fedora-repos-rawhide`` followed by
   ``sudo dnf update --enablerepo=rawhide kernel``:

- Unsure (it's a work machine so can't test rawhide currently)

6. Are you running any modules that not shipped with directly Fedora's kernel?: yes:
Tainted modules:
- gpio_usbio
- i2c_usbio
- usbio
- ov02c10
- v4l2loopback

7. Please attach the kernel logs. You can get the complete kernel log
   for a boot with ``journalctl --no-hostname -k > dmesg.txt``. If the
issue occurred on a previous boot, use the journalctl ``-b`` flag.

Reproducible: Always
