Description of problem:
The Software Updater starts and then hangs for approximately 10 minutes. Then the exception message appears

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Start the Software Updater

Actual Results:
The Software Updater started to Retrieve Updates, then hung for approxmiately 10 minutes, then died with the following message (and dump)

Expected Results:
Golly, I guess I should have seen a list of packages to update

Looking at the crash dump attachment, this appears to be related to a network I/O problem.
