Description Terje Rosten 2026-01-29 19:30:47 UTC
Please add python-pydbus to EPEL10, it's needed by recoll package

Reproducible: Always

Comment 1 Terje Rosten 2026-01-29 19:35:54 UTC
It's builds fine as is in epel10: https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=141678091

@mkolman Please address this so we can resolve bug 2429519.

Comment 3 Carl George 🎩 2026-03-24 22:26:12 UTC
Before this is branched for epel10, I recommend porting the spec file to the modern pyproject macros. I've sent a PR to do that, with a few other small cleanups.

ping?

Comment 5 Terje Rosten 2026-04-25 08:32:10 UTC
Hi Martin, I can co-maintain this package and handle the EPEL branches.

FYI Terje, if Martin doesn't respond you can use this process to become a co-maintainer.

https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Policy_for_nonresponsive_package_maintainers/#stalled-request-process

Comment 8 Terje Rosten 2026-05-14 16:30:39 UTC
Package builds fine in rawhide:

Comment 9 Terje Rosten 2026-05-23 20:31:12 UTC
If you do not wish to maintain the package in epel10,
or do not think you will be able to do this in a timely manner,
I would be happy to be a co-maintainer of the package (FAS terjeros);
please add me through https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/python-pydbus/adduser

Comment 10 Martin Kolman 2026-05-25 13:46:14 UTC
Is it really a good idea to introduce pydbus to EPEL 10 at this point ? It has been dead upstream for at least 8 years:

https://github.com/LEW21/pydbus - last commit 8 years ago.

On that note I think I will check if there are actually any dependent packages in Fedora & will try to reach out to their maintainers to switch to dasbus (https://github.com/dasbus-project/dasbus) which is stable, actively maintained & used by the Anaconda installer project on day to day basis.

Hi, thanks for the useful feedback!

Repoquery lists two packages:

 input-remapper-0:2.2.0-2.fc44.noarch
 recoll-gssp-0:1.43.13-1.fc44.x86_64

The problematic package in EPEL10 context is recoll-gssp, converting this to dasbus seems to be
doable in a finite timeframe and I will try to go down that path.

dasbus seems to be in EL10 proper, right?

Comment 12 Terje Rosten 2026-05-25 16:02:14 UTC
Using Glib and Gio from gi.repository might resolve the issue it seems.

Considering that, it should probably be marked as deprecated in Fedora.

The Anaconda installer used to install RHEL 10 depends & it seems to be in the AppStream repo.

Agreed, I will start the deprecation procedure for it on Fedora soon. :)

Using gi.repository directly resolved the issue for recoll
