[Claude Code issue research] FTBFS Root cause: postgresql_anonymizer is a PostgreSQL extension written in Rust, using the pgrx framework (version 0.16.1). pgrx uses bindgen (version 0.71.1, vendored) to generate Rust FFI bindings from PostgreSQL C headers at build time. The quality of these bindings depends on the libclang version available during the build. LLVM/Clang was upgraded from 21.x to 22.x in rawhide: - llvm-21.1.8-3.fc44 — available until Feb 28 (used by the successful 3.0.5 build on Feb 18) - llvm-22.1.0-3.fc44 — landed Feb 28 - llvm-22.1.1-2.fc44 — landed Mar 17 (current) With Clang 22, bindgen 0.71.1 (as used by pgrx 0.16.1) generates opaque struct bindings for several critical PostgreSQL types. Instead of producing fields like t_hoff, t_infomask, type_, etc., it produces structs with only an _address field. This causes compilation failures in pgrx-pg-sys: | error[E0609]: no field `rd_tableam` on type `&RelationData` | = note: available field is: `_address` | error[E0609]: no field `t_hoff` on type `include::pg16::HeapTupleHeaderData` | = note: available field is: `_address` | error[E0609]: no field `type_` on type `include::pg16::Node` | = note: available field is: `_address` (14 errors total, all in pgrx-pg-sys) ------------------------------ Extra notes: The upstream source change from 3.0.5 to 3.0.13 is clean: both Fedora patches (anonymizer-cargo.patch, remove-disallowed-licenses.patch) apply without conflicts, pgrx remains at 0.16.1, vendored crate versions are unchanged. This is NOT caused by the 3.0.5 → 3.0.13 update. The current 3.0.5 package would also FTBFS if rebuilt against Clang 22. ------------------------------ Potential next steps: 1. Upstream pgrx fix (preferred): pgrx 0.17.0 (released 2025-02-09) reworked struct binding generation, including adding repr(C) to struct definitions and manually binding problematic types. postgresql_anonymizer upstream would need to adopt pgrx 0.17.0, which is a breaking change (requires Rust edition 2024, resolver = "3"). This should be reported to https://gitlab.com/dalibo/postgresql_anonymizer. 2. Patch bindgen/pgrx: Backport the relevant binding fixes from pgrx 0.17.0 into the vendored pgrx 0.16.1. This would be a Fedora-specific patch, but the scope of changes between pgrx 0.16.1→0.17.0 may make this impractical. 3. Pin clang version: Add BuildRequires: clang < 22 or BuildRequires: compat-clang21-libs if such a compat package existed. This is fragile and not a real solution. 4. Wait for upstream: The anonymizer project may adopt pgrx 0.17.0 in a future release, which would resolve this naturally. [Claude Code issue research]
