Comment 4 Fedora Blocker Bugs Application 2026-04-23 08:45:38 UTC
Proposed as a Freeze Exception for 44-final by Fedora user tk2345 using the blocker tracking app because:

Violates Fedora 44 Beta Release Criteria/Custom partitioning/Reject or disallow invalid disk and volume configurations without crashing.

Comment 5 Fedora Blocker Bugs Application 2026-04-23 09:26:00 UTC
Proposed as a Blocker for 44-final by Fedora user augenauf using the blocker tracking app because:

Criterion in violation: The installer must be able to create and install to any workable partition layout using any file system and/or container format combination offered in a default installer configuration.

I can confirm this bug in F44 Workstation. Interestingly, the same problem can also be triggered in anaconda GTK interface (DVD/netinst), but at least you get a warning dialog saying that /boot size is smaller then recommended (and what the recommended value is). In WebUI, you don't get any notification whatsoever, WebUI happily marks that layout as valid.

Comment 7 Geraldo Simião 2026-04-23 12:02:02 UTC
I can confirm this in F44 KDE too.
just an observation: For /boot/efi one can install with just 43MB because efi files from a fresh install uses only about 23MB, but I agree, this is not tha way it should allow. and for /boot it really uses alot more space than 43MB and crashes at the begining of the installation process.

Comment 8 Adam Williamson (Red Hat non-Fedora) 2026-04-23 17:10:51 UTC
Just for historical context: I checked back a few releases and both 'custom' and 'advanced custom' (blivet) paths in gtkui always warned about this, it seems. And I checked F42 and F43 webui and they're the same - they do not warn about this.

So this isn't new, but it's been worse in webui than in gtkui for a while.

Comment 9 Adam Williamson (Red Hat non-Fedora) 2026-04-23 20:16:47 UTC
Discussed at 2026-04-23 Fedora 44 Go/No-Go Meeting #2, acting as a blocker review meeting: https://meetbot-raw.fedoraproject.org/meeting_matrix_fedoraproject-org/2026-04-23/f44-final-go-no-go-meeting-2.2026-04-23-18.00.html . Approved as a violation of "When using...the Cockpit-based "storage editor" flow on the webui-based installer, the installer must be able to: (...) Reject or disallow invalid disk and volume configurations without crashing." However, waived to Fedora 45 Beta as both a "Last minute blocker bug" and a "Difficult to fix blocker bug" per https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:SOP_blocker_bug_process#Exceptional_cases . We noted that this was proposed very late, anaconda team says fixing it is not trivial, and the bug was in previous webui-based releases so we are not making things worse in comparison to the current stable releases.
