Description Fedora Fails To Install 2026-04-29 07:49:54 UTC
Hello,

Please note that this comment was generated automatically by https://forge.fedoraproject.org/releng/tooling/src/branch/main/release-process/bug-filing/follow-policy/follow_policy.py
If you feel that this output has mistakes, please open an issue at https://forge.fedoraproject.org/releng/tickets/issues

Your package (espresso) Fails To Install in Fedora 44:

can't install python3-espresso-mpich:
  - nothing provides libkokkoscore.so.4.7()(64bit) needed by python3-espresso-mpich-5.0.0-2.fc44.x86_64

can't install python3-espresso-openmpi:
  - nothing provides libkokkoscore.so.4.7()(64bit) needed by python3-espresso-openmpi-5.0.0-2.fc44.x86_64

If you know about this problem and are planning on fixing it, please acknowledge so by setting the bug status to ASSIGNED. If you don't have time to maintain this package, consider orphaning it, so maintainers of dependent packages realize the problem.

If you don't react accordingly to the policy for FTBFS/FTI bugs (https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Fails_to_build_from_source_Fails_to_install/), your package may be orphaned in 8+ weeks.

P.S. The data was generated solely from koji buildroot, so it might be newer than the latest compose or the content on mirrors. To reproduce, use the koji/local repo only, e.g. in mock:

    $ mock -r fedora-44-x86_64 --config-opts mirrored=False install python3-espresso-mpich python3-espresso-openmpi

P.P.S. If this bug has been reported in the middle of upgrading multiple dependent packages, please consider using side tags: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Updates_Policy/#updating-inter-dependent-packages

Thanks!

Comment 2 Jean-Noël Grad 2026-04-29 17:37:59 UTC
The kokkos-devel package recently bumped its version to release 5.0.2. While ESPResSo 5.0.0 supports that version of Kokkos, its feature set needs to include legacy views for Cabana. If I understand the Kokkos CMake correctly, `IMPL_MDSPAN` is ON by default, and when ON, `VIEW_LEGACY_DEFAULT` is OFF by default. When ESPResSo builds Kokkos from sources, it sets `IMPL_VIEW_LEGACY` to ON.

I have removed kokkos-devel from the dependency list. The upcoming ESPResSo 5.1 release will make Cabana mandatory; at that point, package dependencies won't be satisfied anymore, unless either Cabana moves away from the legacy interface, or kokkos-devel re-enables the legacy interface.
