Description manodor 2026-06-25 08:06:03 UTC
Description of problem:
Blender currently crashes on startup, after updating the materialx package to version 1.39.5 and displays the following:
blender: symbol lookup error: /lib64/libusd_ms.so.0.26.3: undefined symbol: _ZTIN17MaterialX_v1_39_47ElementE

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
5.1.1

How reproducible:
The error was reproducible on all my devices with fedora 44 kde and I could also reproduce it on a fresh installed fedora 44 workspace and kde vm

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install blender: sudo dnf install blender
2. Start blender in the terminal -> blender: symbol lookup error: /lib64/libusd_ms.so.0.26.3: undefined symbol: _ZTIN17MaterialX_v1_39_47ElementE
3. Downgrade materialx to 1.39.4: sudo dnf install materialx-1.39.4
4. Start blender in the terminal -> works again

Actual results:

Expected results:

Additional info:
the update to materialx was marked as a security fix, so an new blender build that works with materialx-1.39.5 would be nice

See https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2492227#c4. Blender rebuilds (in side tags with rebuilt usd) are currently in progress for F44 and F43.

Waiting for https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2026-19ee9e9792 to be “unlocked” after F44 composes failed today, so I can unpush it and create a new update that includes Blender.
