This is a tracking bug for Change: Adopt PURL Metadata For more details, see: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/Adopt_PURL_Metadata Package metadata will be enhanced by adding virtual Provides for standardized identifiers based on the PURL (Package-URL) specification, with the goal of simplifying the mapping between upstream projects and Fedora packages. If you encounter a bug related to this Change, please do not comment here. Instead create a new bug and set it to block this bug.
Small status update: The F45 mass rebuild date has somehow caught me by surprise, so I wasn't able to push nearly as many changes as I wanted to Rawhide prior to the mass rebuild. For the one ecosystem where I have keys to all the moving pieces (Rust / cargo), I pushed changes to add the new metadata in time before the mass rebuild - so all packages for Rust crates (that don't fail to build) will have the new `purl(...)` virtual Provides attached to it. For other language ecosystems, I'll work on adding support for this in the near future - even though having missed the mass rebuild, the Change won't have the full intended effect until the F46 mass rebuild.
Hi Fabio, do you want to retarget this change for F46 altogether? Or split it to two - one for rust only, and an F46 change for the remaining languages?
I don't think the additional paperwork for splitting it in two would be worth it. I'm fine with retargeting this Change at F46.
