Created attachment 2147160 [details] Update to 1.0.0 (#2495052)
the-new-hotness/release-monitoring.org's scratch build of lmdb-1.0.0-1.fc44.src.rpm for rawhide failed http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=147236735
Scratch build: https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=147302124 PR: https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/lmdb/pull-request/7
This update bumps soname to 1.0.0, affected packages: # dnf repoquery --whatrequires 'liblmdb.so.0.0.0()(64bit)' --qf '%{source_name}\n' 2>/dev/null | sort -u | grep -v '^lmdb$' 389-ds-base appstream-generator apr-util bind bind9-next ceph c-icap c-icap-modules dnsdist dnsjit fapolicy-analyzer fapolicyd gawk-lmdb kf5-baloo kf6-baloo knot knot-resolver krb5 libdb libmodsecurity neomutt nheko ocaml-dune orangefs pdns perl-LMDB_File php postfix python-lmdb rocal samba
mass-prebuild: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/vashirov/lmdb-1.0.0-soname-bump/packages/ Some packages are failing due to changes in LMDB, some due to infra issues.
And those that do build with 1.0 will be unable to read databases written with 0.9. Please proceed carefully. Recent FreeBSD incident: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=296530
(and some that do build will not work correctly - there are subtle API changes)
Thanks for the reference and heads-up! I'm still investigating the failures in COPR, but it's already clear that upstreams don't support changed API or migration to the new disk format yet. I'm planning to stay on 0.9.x for now in rawhide and all stable releases. Updating to 1.0 will require a proper Change Proposal in Fedora, compat package and migration documentation.
And just the passing of time will cause upstreams to adapt, and more ideas for migration to appear (OpenBSD has a clever proposal: ship mdb_dump-0.9 in the 1.0 package so people at least have the tools to migrate)

(In reply to Viktor Ashirov from comment #4) > This update bumps soname to 1.0.0, affected packages: > # dnf repoquery --whatrequires 'liblmdb.so.0.0.0()(64bit)' --qf '%{source_name}\n' 2>/dev/null | sort -u | grep -v '^lmdb$' Use: fedrq wrsrc lmdb -S -F name fedrq wrsrc lmdb -s -F name in the future. You have missed a few consumers as some of them are build-time only: libldb librgw2 lmdbxx rust-lmdb-sys (I'm the lmdbxx maintainer.)
