Description Adam Williamson (Fedora) 2026-10-05 21:38:31 UTC
In openQA testing of installer images built with image-builder, some console text matches fail. I look into this and I think I found the cause.

lorax-built images have a /etc/vconsole.conf that specifies a console font:

FONT=eurlatgr

This is the same for installed Fedora systems (except if you install with a few specific locales which benefit from a different console font).

image-builder-built images have no /etc/vconsole.conf at all. On boot, systemd dynamically generates one which contains no active directives, only comments. So the console font will be...whatever the kernel default is, I guess?

The font we get is mostly identical to eurlatgr, it seems, except for a few characters, at least 'm' is different.

This probably isn't super important, but seems worth reporting anyway. The most likely consequence is issues displaying non-ASCII characters at the console, which probably isn't something there's much need for in the installer environment, I don't think.
