Description Joshua Strobl 2026-10-11 15:12:36 UTC
During the development of Budgie Desktop 10.10.3, panel applets were made translatable.

Unfortunately, libpeas uses the display name (so the translated name) for the "name" and thus when storing plugins, we'd store them by the translated name, and future lookups would fail.

I have a patch upstream that demonstrates the issue and resolves it. This patch follows the same pattern as Raven by referencing module (auto-migrating user configs in the process), then fallback to name-based lookups.

This ensures applets added in budgie-desktop when the user is using a non-EN locale are correctly stored.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Switch language to German
2. Open Budgie Desktop Settings
3. Add a translated applet such as Tasklist
4. Reboot
Actual Results:
Notice panel applet fails to load

Expected Results:
Panel loads with all applets as expected

Comment 2 Fedora Blocker Bugs Application 2026-10-11 15:16:14 UTC
Proposed as a Freeze Exception for 45-final by Fedora user joshstrobl using the blocker tracking app because:

Without this patch for budgie-desktop, adding an applet while using a non-English system language will result in panel applet loading errors or panel crash. This patch switches to migrated module names with fallback logic for non-EN plugin names in addition to the non-localized fallback name.
