Steps to Reproduce:
1.just start re-installing again
2. note: I *had* installed NS 6.01 and gotten a "cannot initiate X" 
message last time I tried to boot in.  (Had initlevel = 5 pre-set, but got 
text login, logged in as root, then said "startx," and got fatal 
exception.)
