I did an ftp install of RC2, chose "custom", accepted the automatic partitioning (is the choice of automatic partitioning in "custom" mode a bug in and of itself?), and performed an otherwise normal install. I used the two pcmcia install disks, and I did this install on my laptop. I got "LI" on my screen upon reboot. I didn't create a rescue diskette, so I rescued the system, and found that there is no lilo.conf in /etc ! There is a messages file in /boot, and all the expected files in /etc, but no lilo.conf (!) Unless it has moved somewhere else, this is a BIG bug. Thank you, Joshua Jensen
Ok, I figured out more. The lilo options dialog in the text installer has the buttons of OK, SKIP, and BACK. In previous version of RHL, the SKIP choice would simple "skip" the options dialog, but not the lilo configuration. This was why my old version of lilo on the MBR was only producing "LI" (the new lilo config wasn't being written or used). Everything works if I choose "OK" instead of skip. I would still say that this change in the fuctionality of "SKIP" might be worth explaining in the "lilo options" dialog. Maybe we could rename "lilo options" to "lilo configuration" in the text installer? This would make "SKIP" more intuitively refer to lilo inself, and not just lilo's optional options.
This defect is considered MUST-FIX (show-stopper) for Florence GOLD
The message may be a bit misleading, but this is how its been for sometime.
But it wouldn't be hard to simly re-title this section to say "LILO configuration", and not LILO options. Nothing else need change. This would make "SKIP" refer to the configuration itself, and not just the usage of LILO options.
