From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.01; Windows 95; AT&T CSM6.0) I changed from an S3 video card to a Diamond FireGL 1000. Despite running Xconfigurator and rpm -ivh XFree863DLabs-3.3.5-3.i386.rpm na Xconfigurator again and again...Xwindows would not install. I thought given my limited experience with Linux, that I would just try to do a complete install all over again rather than download patches and do whatever needs to be done with patches. The re-install apparently didn't recognize my card (it never asked me about it; it did ask me about the monitor...KDS K-700 which I set up as a generic multisync). X is listed in the /usr/X11R6/bin, but XFree86- 3DLabs (as above) isn't. This is where I found XF86_S3 before the re- install and I would expect to find XF86_3DLabs here. This is why I think the card wasn't seen on install. Additionally, when I installed RH6.1 before on this machine, the install GUI looked very crisp. Thi time it looked like it had a color depth of 16. It was almost only black or white, except for the RH logo which was very grainy. Also the lines around the edit boxes and the buttons were not complete. I don't think the server/driver is working very well with this card. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Re-install RH6.1 over PC with Diamond FireGL 1000 2.at prompt startx 3. Renders X unusable
Red Hat Linux 6.1 is no longer supported, however 6.2 is. I recommend at a bare minimum you install the XFree86 packages from Red Hat Linux 6.2 errata release from updates.redhat.com and try that. I believe that this should work for you. If not, please try our current release as the problem you are having doesn't seem to occur with the latest release.
