Description tunes 1999-06-10 17:56:16 UTC
local logins work just fine locally, but when telnetting
into the box, it makes it to the login and PW prompt, but
refuses to authenticate (always gives a login invalid). I
can use SU to switch between users with their own passwords,
but I cannot telnet into the machine even from itself.

I have looked through the FAQ's but am unable to find any
information at all as to why this may be happening

IP for the machine is

temporary login UN sj PW twonk1

yes I have verified the PW's

IP for now is 207.70.43.161 and will stay that way till I
get it hooked up to my companies t1 (in the mean time it
will be VERY slow)

If I understand correctly, you are trying to log on using root account. That
has been disallowed for reasons of security.
